What is the empirical formula for a compound that contains 3.66% hydrogen, 37.94% phosphorus and 58.40% oxygen?
I can do it when there are 2 compounds but I'm not sure how to with 3.How to figure out empirical formulas with percent compositions?
In the same way as you'd do it with two.
Per 100 grams, you will have 3.66 grams H, 37.94 grams P and 58.40 grams O. Divide these masses by their atomic mass, and find the smallest ratio of these values to get the formula.
